Supporting regions and local authorities in assessing climate risks
Funds a consortium to upgrade a shared EU climate-risk toolbox and then re-grant most of the money so at least 50 regions and local authorities can run their own climate risk assessments.
The €200,000 cap per third-party regional authority is itself a deliberate exception: Horizon Europe's usual ceiling for financial support to third parties is EUR 60,000, but the Commission concluded that figure is too low to cover a comprehensive climate risk assessment's data collection, expert labour and stakeholder engagement costs, especially for larger regions, so this topic raises it to EUR…
The funder wants the CLIMAAX regional climate-risk assessment framework and toolbox improved — covering multiple hazards, made open-source, and easier for non-experts to use. It also wants that upgraded toolbox actually put to work, so many more European regions and local authorities produce robust, comparable climate risk assessments of their own.
