The European Commission wants excellent postdoctoral researchers of any nationality to take up a fellowship at an academic or non-academic host organisation located in a Widening country — an EU region the Commission is trying to help catch up in research capacity. Fellows should build international, inter-sectoral research experience while strengthening the host organisation's training and supervision quality. The aim is squarely about drawing more competitive postdoctoral talent into Widening countries, not funding research in any location the applicant chooses.
