SWIFT — Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition — is a $5.1 million (approximately KES 722 million) programme launched in February 2024 by the Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) with funding from the IKEA Foundation. Running for three years through approximately February 2027, the programme targets 110 enterprises across Kenya operating in waste management and circular economy, providing business advisory, technical assistance, mentorship, access to finance, and policy advocacy support.

The programme operates two tracks. The Incubation track is designed for earlier-stage enterprises and carries lighter entry requirements. The 18-month Accelerator track has explicit eligibility criteria: the enterprise must be legally registered in Kenya, operating in the waste management sector, and must have been in operation for at least four years; annual revenues must exceed $30,000; the team must have between 5 and 20 employees; certified audited financial records covering at least two years are required; and the enterprise must have a working prototype or MVP. KCIC additionally assesses demonstrated climate impact, innovation potential, scalability, and market proof in its selection process. No per-enterprise cash award amount is stated in programme documentation; the $5.1 million pool covers programme delivery costs and financial support mechanisms collectively.

SWIFT accepts applications on a rolling basis. Waste management and circular economy enterprises that meet the Accelerator thresholds should apply early to secure one of the 110 programme slots. Organizations at an earlier stage that do not yet meet the Accelerator requirements should apply to the Incubation track. KCIC also connects participating enterprises with investor networks, giving Accelerator cohort members a pathway beyond the programme. Enquiries should be directed to KCIC at info@kenyacic.org.
