SWIFT — Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition

Runs IKEA Foundation-funded programme supporting enyan small and enterprises in waste management and circular economy.

SWIFT, short for Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition, is KCIC's waste-management programme for Kenya, funded by the IKEA Foundation. It launched in February 2024 and runs for three years, with support aimed at 110 SMEs across the country. The programme combines an incubation track with an 18-month accelerator track. It offers business advisory, technical assistance, mentorship, access to finance, and policy advocacy, but the public sources do not publish a per-enterprise award amount. Accelerator applicants must be Kenyan-registered legal entities in waste management, with at least four years of operation, annual revenue above $30,000, a working prototype or MVP, two years of audited financials, and 5 to 20 employees. That makes SWIFT a fit for established circular-economy businesses rather than early concepts. The strongest applicants can show real operating history, a product already in market, and enough scale to use tailored support for growth and financing. The programme is still active, but the public intake windows are not clearly published.
