Applications first go to a team of Analysts, who score each one for efficiency, scalability and impact; the highest scorers become Finalists, described on the prize's own site as representing the forefront of innovation and leadership in their field. The prize looks for projects and initiatives that cut atmospheric CO2 and other greenhouse gases across five categories: carbon capture and sequestration, decarbonizing energy, climate finance mechanisms, social and cultural shifts away from fossil fuels, and low-emissions transport and mobility. It wants solutions that can show real scalability and impact, not just early ideas.
