Strategic Nature Projects
Funds large, multi-year projects that drive full implementation of a national nature-restoration or biodiversity plan, with EUR 72 million set aside for this topic in 2025.
Because a single strategic project can run for many years, LIFE structures it as a series of phases, normally at least three years each, so the scale of the work can be managed and adjusted as it goes. The LIFE programme wants Strategic Nature Projects that carry forward an already-adopted plan for protecting or restoring nature: a Prioritised Action Framework under the Habitats Directive, a national restoration plan under the EU Nature Restoration Regulation, or another national, regional or multiregional plan tied to EU nature and biodiversity law. A project doesn't have to complete every action in the plan itself, but it must catalyse the wider process and pull in the extra funding and commitments needed to finish the job over time.
