Forskningsprojekt (Research Projects) is KK-stiftelsen's replacement for the former HÖG program, introduced from 2025 onward to fund short-to-medium-term applied research conducted jointly by Swedish newer universities and industry. The 2025 call offered up to 4 million SEK per project over a duration of one to four years, with project starts scheduled between June and December 2026. The application window ran from September 9 to November 28, 2025, with decisions in April 2026. The program is administered by KK-stiftelsen and targets universities within its 22-institution target group.
Eligibility requires the lead applicant to be a university or newer higher education institution in KK-stiftelsen's target group. At least two independent industry actors must participate as co-financers, and their combined co-funding must equal or exceed the amount requested from KK-stiftelsen — a mandatory 1:1 industry match. Unlike the larger Synergi and Forskningsprofiler programs, Forskningsprojekt is designed for focused, time-bounded research questions that can be addressed within a single project rather than a multi-project program, making it an accessible entry point for university research groups building new industrial collaborations.
Forskningsprojekt replaced the HÖG instrument, which ran for many years before being rebranded and updated in 2025. The core model — joint university-industry research with mandatory co-funding — remains consistent with KK-stiftelsen's broader philosophy across all its programs. The 2025 cycle is now closed. The next cycle is expected to open in September 2026, following the same annual pattern as the other KK-stiftelsen programs. Research teams should identify their two independent industry partners and secure co-funding commitments before the September opening, as the co-funding requirement is an eligibility gate, not a scoring criterion.
Funds short-to-medium applied research projects jointly conducted by Swedish newer universities and at least two independent industry partners, covering any technological or applied scientific discipline.
