Supports academically-led translational projects to improve prevention, diagnosis, prognosis or treatment of significant health needs, or to develop research tools that increase the efficiency of developing interventions. Supported activities include novel candidate therapeutic entities, vaccines, biologics, advanced therapeutics, regenerative medicine approaches, medicines repurposing studies, medical devices, digital healthcare and app development, diagnostics, medical imaging technology, surgical techniques or tools, behavioural and psychological interventions, and radiotherapy and radiation protocols. It excludes fundamental or investigative research without a development plan, technology development outside a medical or clinical developmental plan, late-phase clinical trials, health service delivery development without a specific clinical need, and population-level and societal solutions to healthcare challenges.
