This funding supports research associated with an IODP3 drilling or coring expedition, or a scientific project using ocean drilling archives (SPARC).
It is open only to invited members of science teams for IODP3 drilling, coring or SPARC expeditions. Applications must be led by a project lead from an eligible UK institution.

The scientific challenges are defined by the strategic objectives of the SF2050, including habitability and life on Earth, the oceanic life cycle of tectonic plates, Earth’s climate system, feedbacks in the Earth system, tipping points in Earth history, global cycles of energy and matter, and natural hazards impacting society. The fund will not cover PhD studentship costs or requests for equipment of £25,000 and over.
