OSD ManTech / MII Project Calls

Supports advanced manufacturing research and innovation through Manufacturing Innovation Institute calls.

OpenU.S. Department of DefenseUnited StatesDeep-tech · core fit

The Office of the Secretary of Defense Manufacturing Technology (OSD ManTech) program, housed within the Science and Technology Futures Office under OUSD(R&E), funds advanced manufacturing R&D that supports US defense industrial base modernization and readiness. OSD ManTech does not issue grants directly; funding flows through a network of DoD-sponsored Manufacturing Innovation Institutes (MIIs) and military-service ManTech offices, each of which runs its own competitive project calls on rolling schedules throughout the year. The nine DoD-funded MIIs include America Makes (additive manufacturing), AIM Photonics (integrated photonics), ARM Institute (advanced robotics), BioFabUSA (biofabrication), BioMADE (bioindustrial manufacturing), LIFT (lightweight metals), MxD (digital manufacturing), NextFlex (flexible hybrid electronics), and others. Eligible applicants include for-profit companies, universities, nonprofits, and research organizations located in the US.

Three DoD-funded project calls were open as of May 2026: America Makes Two Project Calls worth $14.5 million (funded by OSD ManTech, closing June 2, 2026); MIAMI — Maturation Initiative for Additive Metals Interchangeability — offering $12.4 million through America Makes/NCDMM (funded by the IBAS Program, closing July 9, 2026); and INSITE — INtegrated System for In-situ Testing and Evaluation — funded jointly by IBAS and OSD ManTech (closing July 9, 2026). Earlier FY26 calls included the DoD OIB Modernization Challenge ($10–$15M, up to $25M) and JAQS-SQ Groups 2 & 3 ($10.5M). All current open opportunities are listed at manufacturingusa.com/opportunities.

Proposals go to the specific MII administering the project call, not to OSD ManTech directly. MII membership may be required or preferred for some calls, so applicants should review individual call requirements before preparing a submission. Each project call specifies its own eligibility conditions, expected team composition, cost-sharing requirements, and technical scope. Topics track OUSD(R&E) critical technology areas including trusted AI and autonomy, microelectronics, advanced materials, quantum science, biotechnology, hypersonics, and directed energy—all with a manufacturing-readiness angle relevant to DoD procurement.

Advanced manufacturing R&D project calls delivered through DoD Manufacturing Innovation Institutes, spanning additive manufacturing, robotics, biofabrication, integrated photonics, flexible hybrid electronics, lightweight metals, and digital manufacturing.
