More than 160,000 abandoned mine features sit on land the Bureau of Land Management manages, many of them still posing a real risk to people, wildlife and water. This money funds fixing that, not researching it.
The work is physical: inventorying hazardous sites, then closing them off or making them safe β fencing, signage, backfilling shafts, installing bat-friendly gates over openings bats stilβ¦
