MassVentures Catalyst is a clean energy grant programme co-administered by MassVentures and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), awarding up to $75,000 per grant to early-stage clean energy innovators working at Technology Readiness Levels 2 through 4. The programme runs two funding windows per year — Spring and Fall — with the Fall 2026 window scheduled to follow the Spring 2026 cycle, which closed 13 March 2026 with finalist announcements expected in late April and award decisions in late June 2026. Specific Fall 2026 application dates had not been announced as of mid-2026.

The standard Catalyst track offers 7 awards of up to $75,000 each. A parallel DICES (Diverse Clean Energy Sector) sub-track offers 3 additional awards at the same amount, reserved exclusively for certified or certifiable women-owned or minority-owned startups. Eligible applicants are either principal investigators at Massachusetts-based research institutions or leaders of Massachusetts-based early-stage clean energy companies. TRL eligibility is assessed using the NYSERDA TRL Calculator, and projects must fall within TRL 2–4 at time of application. All awards are non-dilutive grants; no equity is taken.

The application process begins with online submission through MassVentures. Shortlisted finalists receive pitch coaching and business mentoring before final award decisions are made. Awardees gain access to the combined MassVentures and MassCEC mentor networks. Eligible sectors span all clean energy technology subsectors including storage, solar, wind, grid modernisation, and building efficiency. Applicants not selected for Catalyst may be considered for other MassVentures programmes such as START, depending on their federal funding status.
