Michigan Auto Supplier Transition Program (MAST-P)
Provides Michigan auto suppliers with free technical assistance to support transitions in production capabilities.
The Michigan Auto Supplier Transition Program (MAST-P) is a no-cost advisory services program launched on April 27, 2026, by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) using federal State Small Business Credit Initiative Small Business Opportunity Program (SSBCI SBOP) funds. The program provides free business consulting, diversification planning, and electrification readiness assessments to Michigan auto suppliers whose revenue is tied to internal combustion engine components and who are seeking to transition their operations. The total program budget exceeds $9 million and is designed to serve more than 500 auto suppliers over a three-year period. Automation Alley is the lead platform host and delivery partner.
The program specifically prioritizes very small auto suppliers with fewer than 10 employees and is geographically restricted to six Michigan counties: Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, St. Clair, Lapeer, and Kent — the core of Michigan's Tier 1 and Tier 2 auto supply chain. MAST-P does not provide cash grants or loans to recipient businesses; the value delivered is expert advisory services at no cost to the supplier. Services are expected to include market opportunity analysis, business model diversification guidance, supplier readiness assessments for EV-oriented OEM supply chains, and referrals to capital and financing programs administered by MEDC and partner organizations.
Auto suppliers seeking to participate should contact Automation Alley directly, as it serves as the intake and program management platform. Because the program is a technical assistance initiative and not a cash award, there is no competitive grant application process; eligible suppliers in the six covered counties simply enroll. The three-year program term runs from April 2026 through approximately April 2029. Suppliers that complete MAST-P advisory engagements may be better positioned to subsequently pursue MEDC capital programs, MBDP performance grants, or federal manufacturing transition funding.
