NSIN Vector is the annual cohort accelerator operated by the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN), a program office within the Department of Defense's Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). The program targets pre-Series A and early-stage dual-use ventures seeking to develop innovations for and conduct business with the Department of Defense. NSIN was formerly known as MD5 National Security Technology Accelerator and was moved into DIU in 2019; it focuses on human capital development and ecosystem-building rather than direct R&D investment, and Vector is its primary vehicle for engaging commercial-stage defense startups.

The 2024 cohort selected 20 companies from 170 applicants, an acceptance rate of approximately 12%. Selected companies participate in a 10-week program that provides access to DoD mentors, guidance on federal procurement and market research, capital-raising strategy, and immersion in the broader defense innovation ecosystem. Technology focus areas for the 2024 cohort included command and control, resilient positioning, navigation and timing, data sharing, advanced sensing, and communications in contested environments. At the conclusion of the program, participating companies compete at a showcase event for a shared prize pool of $50,000. Specific application dates for the 2025 cycle had not been published in available source materials at the time of research.

Eligibility is limited to for-profit, early-stage ventures incorporated in the United States with a dual-use technology focus aligned to DoD mission areas. The $50,000 prize pool is shared among showcase finalists rather than distributed as a per-company grant; the primary programmatic value lies in the DoD mentor network, procurement pathway knowledge, and exposure to defense-oriented investors. Companies that have already raised a Series A round or beyond are outside the stated target profile.

Supports pre-Series A dual-use ventures developing technologies for DoD missions — including command and control, resilient positioning and navigation, data sharing, advanced sensing, and communications in contested environments.
