TechCred is an Ohio Department of Development workforce training reimbursement program that repays Ohio employers for the cost of getting employees credentialed in technology-focused skills. The program is administered at techcred.ohio.gov and accepts applications in periodic rounds throughout the year. Employers pay for approved training upfront, employees complete the credential, and the employer then applies for reimbursement; the reimbursement is structured as a tax credit applied against Ohio tax liability. Eligible credentials must appear on the NYODOD-approved technology credential list, which covers areas including information technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare technology, logistics, and related sectors.

Any Ohio for-profit business or nonprofit organization that employs Ohio-based workers is eligible to apply. The reimbursement is capped at $2,000 per credentialed employee; employers may claim multiple credentials across multiple employees in a single round application. The cap per company per round and the total program pool per round are set at the time each round is announced and are subject to change; applicants should verify current caps at techcred.ohio.gov before applying. Only credentials on the approved list qualify — employers should confirm credential eligibility before enrolling workers in training to avoid funding a program that may not be reimbursable.

TechCred is designed to lower the direct financial barrier to upskilling existing Ohio workers, particularly in technology fields where credential costs can be a deterrent for smaller employers. Multiple application rounds open each year, making the program accessible on a near-continuous basis for employers with training needs. The Ohio Department of Development publishes a searchable approved credential database and round-specific application guidance on the TechCred portal; employers that have previously participated may reapply in subsequent rounds for additional credential completions.

Reimbursement tax credits for Ohio employers that upskill workers with approved technology-focused credentials across IT, advanced manufacturing, healthcare technology, logistics, and related sectors.
