The Parkinson's Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for Basic Scientists is a two-year research award providing USD 140,000 in total support to early-career PhD researchers pursuing basic science on Parkinson's disease. The Parkinson's Foundation is a US 501(c)(3) formed in 2016 through the merger of the National Parkinson Foundation and the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, and has funded more than 670 scientists globally since 2010. The award is structured as USD 65,000 per year in salary stipend plus USD 5,000 per year in research allowance. Worldwide institutions are eligible; there is no restriction on the country of the applicant's training institution, making this fellowship accessible to an international pool of early-career scientists. Applicants must hold a PhD and must be within five years of PhD completion at the time of application. The award is made to the individual researcher — not to an institution — and a mentorship arrangement with a senior Parkinson's disease investigator is expected. For the 2025-2026 cycle, applications opened August 25, 2025; the letter of intent was due October 22, 2025; the full application was due March 4, 2026; award notifications were expected June 2026; and the award start date is August 1, 2026. That cycle is now closed, and the next cycle is expected to open in August 2026 based on the annual cadence. Applications are submitted through ProposalCentral at proposalcentral.com. The Basic Scientists track carries a lower total award than the Clinical Neurologists track — USD 140,000 versus USD 160,000 — reflecting different career trajectories. Competitive proposals demonstrate a rigorous hypothesis-driven basic science approach, a clear mentorship infrastructure, and a defined plan for producing publishable research outcomes within the two-year period.
