AWS Diagnostic Development Initiative
Offers cloud access support for diagnostic innovation efforts during the COVID period.
The AWS Diagnostic Development Initiative was a COVID-era AWS response program focused on diagnostic innovation. Launched in 2020, it committed $20 million in cloud credits and technical support to accelerate outbreak-response and diagnostic research, then widened in 2021 so the remaining funds could reach a broader set of diagnostic solutions. The initiative used in-kind AWS credits and technical help rather than cash grants. It accepted a wide set of organizations, including for-profit companies, nonprofits, universities, and research groups, while excluding individuals. The original focus was diagnostics and healthcare, and the program is now wound down rather than open on a recurring calendar. Today the initiative matters as a historical funding route, not as a live application opportunity. The application page no longer functions, there is no current cycle or deadline, and the remaining public record mainly preserves the 2020 emergency context and the later 2021 disbursement of the balance. Teams looking for current AWS support need a different program.
