FRS-FNRS Postdoctoral Mandates (CR / CSPD / SPD)
Provides structured postdoctoral and clinical specialist mandates in French-speaking Belgian universities to build independent scholars.
FRS-FNRS postdoctoral mandates support postdoctoral researchers and clinical specialists at French-speaking Belgian public universities. The core route is CR, or Chargé de Recherches, the standard postdoctoral mandate, with clinical variants layered on top for doctors who combine research with specialist training or hospital practice. The CR mandate runs for three years and can be extended up to six years when external funding supports work partly outside Wallonia-Brussels. CSPD, the postdoctoral specialist candidate track, is a part-time route for clinical doctors doing a specialised master's alongside research and can run for up to six years. SPD, the postdoctoral specialist route, starts with a six-year probation period made up of three two-year mandates and can then move into renewable four-year mandates. A separate Télévie postdoc stream is tied to Télévie research calls, and the annual Grants & Fellowships cycle runs through the same e-space system. This programme suits researchers who already have an institutional base and a clear postdoctoral agenda. The strongest applications keep the host, the career stage, and the research plan aligned, especially where clinical duties, part-time work, or outside funding shape the appointment structure.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
