Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award

The Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award is a two-year industry-embedded research award for exceptional international postdoctoral researchers, as well as Canadians studying abroad, who relocate to Canada. It sits inside the Accelerate family and carries a CIFAR co-funding link, so the emphasis is on advanced research tied to a Canadian partner. The award totals CAD 170,000 over two years, or CAD 85,000 per year. The partner contributes CAD 42,500 plus tax annually, at least CAD 70,000 is reserved for stipend support, and up to CAD 15,000 can be used for research and relocation expenses. The current call deadline is September 11, 2026. Eligibility depends on having a Canadian industry or non-profit partner, an eligible academic supervisor, and a move to Canada from outside the country before the project starts. This award is best suited to postdocs who already have a concrete collaboration and a partner willing to share both cost and supervision. The application is strongest when the research plan, the industrial or applied context, and the relocation story all point in the same direction.
