Mitacs is a Canadian non-profit operator that funds industry-academic research collaboration across every province and Yukon Territory. It is supported jointly by the federal and provincial governments, industry and post-secondary institutions, and it works with nearly 200 universities and colleges through a network of advisors across more than 25 Canadian cities. Its mission is to build innovation capacity by moving skilled talent into applied research settings.

Most Mitacs routes are internship- or fellowship-based rather than open-ended grants. Core programs include Accelerate, Elevate, Business Strategy Internship, Accelerate Entrepreneur, Globalink Research Award, Globalink Research Internship, RISE-Globalink and Accelerate Global Excellence Award. Standard Accelerate support is $15,000 CAD per unit, with a $20,000 CAD model for postdoctoral projects; other routes range from roughly $7,000 CAD to $170,000 CAD depending on the program. Nearly all programs require an industry cash contribution, and the funded work spans fields such as biotechnology, clean energy, hardware, manufacturing, materials, medical technology and robotics.

Mitacs is built around institutional delivery rather than direct payout to participants. Funds flow through the academic institution, projects are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the platform is moving toward Mitacs Plus alongside the legacy portal. The strongest fit is a supervised collaboration that pairs a student or postdoc with an external partner and can satisfy the co-funding, duration and eligibility rules of the chosen route.
