RISE-Globalink Research Internship

Funds Canadian students in extended research placements in Germany through international partnership pathways.

MitacsCanadaGrant

RISE-Globalink is a Mitacs and DAAD partnership that sends Canadian undergraduates to research placements in Germany. It is built for students in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth science, and physics, and the placements run for at least 10 weeks. Mitacs contributes CAD 7,000 per student, replacing the standard DAAD monthly stipend and travel subsidy and covering travel and accommodation. Eligibility is narrow: applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or international students at a Canadian university, have completed the required years of study, and meet the language and age rules. German citizens can participate only if they have lived outside Germany for six years or more. The annual application window runs from October 15 to November 30, with project starts between May 15 and July 15. The program suits undergraduates who already know their field and can align a German host project with a fixed academic timetable. The strongest applications will clear the nationality, study-stage, and discipline filters before the deadline, because the partnership is designed for mobility and placement readiness rather than open-ended exploration. For Canadian students in the right STEM fields, it is a clean route into a German research environment with a defined funding package.
