Long-term International Fellowship (LIFe)
Funds blended international training fellowships for oncologists in global clinical settings.
Conquer Cancer — The ASCO Foundation’s Long-term International Fellowship (LIFe) is a global training fellowship for early-career oncologists in low- and middle-income countries. The program is built to bring fellows to institutions in the United States, Canada, or Europe for advanced training and then send them back home to strengthen local cancer care. The fellowship pays $60,000 to the home institution in two equal installments and runs for 12 or 18 months in total. The training block can include up to six months in person, followed by 6 to 12 months of virtual mentorship. Applicants must be citizens of a World Bank low-, lower-middle-, or upper-middle-income country, already linked to an ASCO-member mentor at the host institution, not already based at that site, and limited to no more than one year of prior training in the United States, Canada, or Europe. The strongest fit is an oncologist with a return plan, not just a training wish list. The structure rewards applicants who can show an existing mentor relationship, a realistic home-institution setting, and a concrete path to improving care after the fellowship ends.
