FONDECYT Regular
Funds established Chilean researchers leading independent projects in foundational scientific inquiry.
FONDECYT Regular is ANID's annual flagship grant for established researchers leading individual scientific or technological projects at Chilean host institutions. It sits inside Proyectos de Investigación and remains one of the long-running pillars of Chile's national research funding, originating in the CONICYT era. The program uses a grant instrument on an annual cycle through the SPL portal in Spanish. Chilean nationals and foreign permanent residents can apply, with the project hosted by a Chilean institution; universities, research organisations, and nonprofits are eligible hosts, while for-profit entities are excluded. Recent operation shows the program can change mid-cycle: the 2026 round included a complemento to the bases, and a January 2026 citizen consultation points to further design changes for 2027 and beyond. Museums, archives, and libraries were added as eligible host contexts under a 2023 inter-ministerial agreement, which broadens where the research can sit. That makes it the broadest of ANID's core project tracks for established principal investigators.
