Supports Colombian research groups through national classification that enables access to science and innovation funding pathways.
Reconocimiento y Medición de Grupos de Investigación is Colombia's national classification cycle for research groups under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The 2024 call, Convocatoria 957, updated groups inside the Sistema Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación and continued a line of national cycles that also ran in 2018 and 2021. The process does not pay a cash award. It recognizes groups across five tiers, from A1 and A through B, C, and Reconocido, after a five-year observation window running from 2019 through 2023. The 2024 rules gave more weight to social appropriation of knowledge, public science outreach, and open-access publishing. For research groups, universities, and research organisations in Colombia, the value of the call is access. Recognition opens the door to most other MinCiencias instruments, regional SGR-CTeI funds, Publindex incentives, and tax credits. In 2025, the cycle recognized 6,322 groups, which makes the national classification a central gatekeeper for later funding.
