Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness Fund
Funds initiatives that reduce biological threat risk and strengthen preparedness for future epidemics.
The Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness Fund is Coefficient Giving's foundation program for preventing engineered biological threats and strengthening response capacity if prevention fails. It directs more than $100 million a year and has awarded hundreds of millions of dollars to date, which makes it one of the larger grantmaking channels in the organization's portfolio. The fund backs transmission suppression work such as PPE stockpiling, far-UVC, and disinfectant vapors, along with technical safeguards, AI-bio governance, policy and advocacy, and field-building that can attract strong talent into the space. Applications begin with a short expression of interest capped at 500 words, and selected projects then move into a one- to two-month investigation before final decisions. The clearest fit is a team with a concrete route to lowering biological risk and enough execution discipline to survive staged diligence. Coefficient favors proposals that are narrow enough to assess quickly but substantial enough to matter, and it accepts direct proposals between formal rounds rather than relying only on a single annual call.
