Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy, rebranded November 2025) is a major philanthropic funder that has directed over $5 billion in grants since 2014. Its Biosecurity and Pandemic Preparedness fund focuses on preventing engineered biological threats and improving pandemic response, and the team expects to direct more than $100 million in 2026 alone. The 2026 Biosecurity RFP, published 30 March 2026, solicited expressions of interest across four funding categories: transmission suppression (stockpiling PPE, air filtration, disinfectant vapor technologies); technical safeguards and governance at the intersection of AI and biology; biosecurity policy and advocacy aimed at decisionmakers in key jurisdictions; and field-building to attract new talent to biosecurity work. Coefficient Giving has previously funded organizations including ProEquip (PPE stockpiling for critical infrastructure workers), Blueprint Biosecurity (transmission suppression technologies including far-UVC and glycol vapors), SecureBio (AI capability evaluation in biology), the Nuclear Threat Initiative (gene synthesis screening), the Mirror Biology Dialogues Fund, and biosecurity fellowships at ERA and Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.

The RFP accepted short expressions of interest of no more than 500 words. Applicants whose EOIs were selected were invited to submit additional details to support a formal grant investigation, with the full investigation process expected to take one to two months. The RFP was open to all organization types globally — nonprofits, for-profits, universities, research organizations, and individuals — with no geographic restrictions. The RFP closed on 11 May 2026 at 11:59 pm PT; Coefficient Giving aimed to respond to all applicants by end of June 2026.

Between formal RFP rounds, organizations with relevant proposals can submit them to biosecurity@coefficientgiving.org, though Coefficient Giving applies a high bar for considering unsolicited proposals and does not guarantee a response. The biosecurity team is led by Managing Director Andrew Snyder-Beattie. Coefficient Giving is partially backed by the Good Ventures foundation (Cari Tuna and Dustin Moskovitz), and the biosecurity fund sits alongside other major Coefficient portfolios in AI safety, global health, farm animal welfare, and lead exposure.
