Semper Ardens Accelerate
Offers multi-year support for newly tenured associate professors building independent research groups in Denmark.
Semper Ardens Accelerate sits under the Carlsberg Foundation's Danish research portfolio and supports newly appointed tenured associate professors who are ready to build an independent research group or research environment. The foundation was created in 1876 by J.C. Jacobsen, operates as an enterprise foundation in Copenhagen, and reported DKK 1.026 billion in grant distribution for 2025 while retaining long-term ownership of Carlsberg A/S. The program offers up to DKK 7 million over three to five years. Eligible applicants must have been appointed within two years of the deadline, hold at least 80% employment at a Danish research institution throughout the award period, and spend at least half of their research time on the project. Funding can cover consumables, equipment, travel, conferences, and salary costs for postdocs, PhD students, research assistants, and student assistants, but not assistant professor salaries. The call runs annually. The best fit is a researcher who has already cleared the tenured associate professor threshold and now needs room to consolidate a lab or team around a defined scientific agenda. The majority of the work must take place in Denmark, so the program favors leaders with a Danish institutional base and a project that can turn a new appointment into a durable research environment rather than a short standalone study.
