Tamkeen Microfinance 2
Funds micro enterprises through wholesale microfinance channels and partner institutions.
Tamkeen Microfinance 2 is MSMEDA's flagship wholesale microfinance programme, run through partner banks and non-bank financial institutions rather than direct retail lending. It is one of the agency's main scale channels in Egypt, moving capital to micro-enterprises across the country through intermediaries that then on-lend to end beneficiaries. The record includes EGP 300 million routed to Banque Misr for about 3,000 micro-enterprises, with end-borrower loans capped at EGP 500,000. Roughly 40% of the fund is reserved for industrial activity, agro-manufacturing, and the formalisation of informal businesses, and January 2025 alone saw more than EGP 500 million deployed through the channel. This is a loan product, so principal is repayable. Applicants do not approach MSMEDA directly; they borrow through the partner bank or NBFI, so the practical test is fit with the intermediary's underwriting and MSMEDA's sector priorities. The strongest cases are businesses ready for meaningful debt and able to show immediate operating use for the capital, especially in production or formalisation-heavy segments.
