International Collaboration Projects (Proyectos de Colaboración Internacional, PCI)

Supports Spain's ERA Net and Horizon co funding share for international research collaboration consortia.

Proyectos de Colaboración Internacional (PCI) sits under the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and is delivered by the State Research Agency, AEI. It funds the Spanish share of international research projects selected through ERA-Net COFUND and Partnership calls, European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation, ESA and CERN programmes, and Horizon Europe Widening participation initiatives. The 2026-1 cycle carries a total budget of €19,783,550. The instrument is a grant for Spanish entities that have already been selected in the upstream international call. Universities, research organisations, nonprofits, and for-profit bodies can participate, but individuals cannot, and the call requires consortia. The published route is bilingual Spanish administration with an application window that opened on 21 April 2026 and closed on 6 May 2026. PCI is strongest for teams that are already inside a transnational collaboration and need the Spanish budget line to close the project structure. AEI expects a second 2026 cycle, which makes the program a recurring route for internationally coordinated work rather than a one-off competition.
