EIT RawMaterials KAVA — RIS Innovation Projects

Invests in raw materials innovation projects in lower-innovation European regions with higher co-funding.

EIT RawMaterials KAVA RIS Innovation Projects is the Regional Innovation Scheme lane under EIT RawMaterials. It targets lower-innovation EU regions and supports new technologies, products, services, or business models across mining, processing, recycling, and circular-economy work, with the same EIT mandate to strengthen Europe's metals and minerals capability through innovation and skills. The route is a grant with project budgets from €800,000 to €1,000,000, and EIT contributes up to 70% of the total. Eligible participants include startups, SMEs, large companies, universities, research centres, NGOs, government agencies, and public institutions, while the lead partner must come from an RIS-eligible country. Consortia must include at least two sides of the knowledge triangle, and projects typically run for one to two years. The best fit is a partnership that can turn a regional need into a project with European reach. Two cut-off dates a year, in June and October, reward teams that assemble a mixed consortium early and keep the work close to deployment rather than lab-only experimentation.
