RIIM Start-Up

Funds Indonesian research-based startups helping them convert laboratory output into viable market products.

National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)IndonesiaGrant

RIIM Start-Up is BRIN's startup track for researchers turning Indonesian research outputs into commercial ventures. It sits under the National Research and Innovation Agency and is built around downstream commercialization rather than basic research alone. Selected teams receive IDR 300 million a year. The program accepts applications on a rolling basis from BRIN researchers, university teams, local government groups, and other research institutions, and it launched in July 2024 as one of BRIN's newer funding routes. Because intake is rolling, founders do not need to wait for a fixed batch before entering the pipeline. The process starts with up to six months of pre-incubation and mentoring before full funding, although teams that already graduated from another incubator can skip that stage. That structure favors applicants who can show a research-backed product or service and who are ready to work through commercial validation, not just laboratory proof of concept. It is a practical bridge for research groups that need guidance before the startup takes on full funding.
