European Research Council Grants (via ISERD) — Horizon Europe

The European Research Council Grants route under ISERD gives Israeli principal investigators access to the European Research Council's frontier-research portfolio. ISERD serves as Israel's national contact point, while the European Research Council provides the funding directly for work hosted at Israeli universities or research organisations. The route sits inside Horizon Europe and is built around long-horizon basic research rather than short applied projects. Its core instruments are the Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, Synergy, and Proof of Concept grants. Awards range from up to EUR 150,000 for Proof of Concept to up to EUR 10 million for Synergy, with additional funding available on some calls. Starting is for researchers two to seven years after the PhD, Consolidator for seven to 12 years, Advanced for established leaders, and Synergy for teams of two to four principal investigators. Excellence is the sole award criterion, so scientific ambition and track record matter more than thematic quotas. The strongest fit is a principal investigator or team with a bold question, a strong host institution, and a proposal that can stand on first-principles originality. ISERD supports proposal review and guidance, but the grant itself is decided and paid through the ERC.
