Minnesota Job Skills Partnership — Partnership Program

Supports workforce development in Minnesota by matching employers with schools for training partnerships.

Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Partnership Program is DEED's main workforce training grant for employers that need custom training for new or existing workers. The award goes to an accredited Minnesota educational institution, which designs and delivers the training with the business. Grants can reach $500,000, and the program also offers pre-development grants up to $50,000 for planning larger projects. The business must provide a 1:1 cash or in-kind match, and eligible costs include curriculum development, instruction, materials, equipment, and instructor travel. Projects usually run one to two years. Applications are accepted year-round, with MJSP Board review several times a year: larger awards are reviewed three times annually, while short-form awards of $50,000 or less are reviewed five to six times a year. This is the right route when a company has a real training need and a partner institution that can build the curriculum. Because the institution is the lead applicant, the business has to show up early and stay involved, especially when the project is tied to high-wage, high-growth, or high-skill occupations. Teams that can define a practical training plan and meet the match requirement tend to be strongest.
