The Malaysia Digital Acceleration Grant (MDAG) is administered by MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation), a government agency under Malaysia's Ministry of Digital. The grant was designed to accelerate the growth of companies with Malaysia Digital (MD) or MSC Malaysia status that are in the commercialisation and expansion stage — essentially scaling up proven tech businesses toward becoming regional or global champions. It is not an R&D grant; it targets companies with existing revenue-generating commercial contracts. Awards cover up to 70% of total project cost, capped at RM 5 million per company, with a funding period of up to three years. The grant operates as cost reimbursement. Both local-owned and foreign-owned companies incorporated in Malaysia were eligible. Minimum paid-up capital of RM 50,000, at least one year in operation, and a technology-related business as evidenced in the SSM registration were required. Companies needed to hold, or obtain within 12 months, MSC Malaysia or Malaysia Digital status. The evaluation placed emphasis on past track record, brand influence, local spending and capital growth, export revenue and jobs, and ecosystem linkages. Applications were submitted through MDEC's GAIN Awards Platform. The process involved submitting company details, uploading an application form and supporting documents, followed by a pitching session, then an approval process. Applications closed 28 July 2023 with no subsequent reopening announced as of June 2026. MDEC introduced MDAG-AI as a successor grant focused specifically on AI companies; MDAG itself appears to have been wound down. Key caveats: The grant page still exists online but explicitly says 'Application Closed' with no future opening. MDAG-AI (up to RM 2 million, 1-year duration, AI companies only) is the current successor instrument. Companies interested in scale-up funding should now look at MDAG-AI or MDXG rather than MDAG.
