Invest-NL Direct Financing

Invest-NL Direct Financing is the Dutch public investment platform's main route for equity, loans, and blended capital into companies that cannot get conventional market financing. It is aimed at Dutch impact-driven scale-ups rather than seed-stage startups, and it sits under a sovereign investment fund rather than a grantmaker. Ticket sizes run from €5 million to €50 million, with €1 million to €5 million preferably handled alongside Regional Development Agencies. Invest-NL may take up to 50 percent of the risk capital in a round, and the program focuses on agrifood, biobased and circular economy, deep tech, energy, and life sciences and health. The route suits companies that can show a strong team, sector experience, and a financing gap that private markets will not cover on their own. Applicants are expected to arrive with a business plan and a Financing Check, and the exclusions are explicit: seed-stage companies, acquisitions, and real estate do not fit.
