New Mexico SBIR/STTR Matching Grant
Runs New Mexico small-business innovation program small-business technology transfer program Matching Grant supporting practical outcomes through targeted.
The New Mexico SBIR/STTR Matching Grant sits under the Technology and Innovation Office within the New Mexico Economic Development Department and adds state money on top of a federal SBIR or STTR award. It is built for New Mexico-based for-profit companies that already won Phase I or Phase II support, with priority sectors including aerospace, biosciences, advanced computing, water technologies, and advanced energy. Phase I awardees can receive up to $50,000, while Phase II awardees can receive up to $100,000. The money can support IP assessment, patent filing, lab testing, regulatory certifications, customer meetings, trade shows capped at 10% of the award, and market research, but not payroll, R&D, food, or supplies above $100. The FY26 cycle opened on May 20, 2025, and final reports are due June 30, 2026. The program is most attractive when a company already has federal validation and wants state backing to push toward commercialization. It also has a narrow timing rule for Phase I firms within three months of completion who are preparing a Phase II application, so the winning profile is usually a New Mexico company with active federal traction and a clear next-step plan.
