New to R&D Grant
Funds New Zealand firms beginning their first innovation projects and building internal experimentation capacity.
New to R&D Grant is New Zealand's entry-level Callaghan Innovation successor program for businesses that are taking their first formal steps into research and development. It now sits under MBIE Innovation Services and offers up to NZD 400,000 per project, covering 40% of eligible R&D costs. Applicants must be New Zealand businesses with limited recent R&D history, including less than NZD 150,000 spent on R&D over the past three years and less than NZD 5,000 in government R&D funding over the same period. Projects can run for up to two years, with quarterly claims, and grantees must add at least two capability development areas from the six named in the scheme. This is a good fit for companies that need both project support and capability building, not just cash. The 60% co-funding requirement means applicants need committed capital up front, and the program's eligibility rules are designed to keep the route focused on businesses that are genuinely early in their R&D journey.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
