Callaghan Innovation was New Zealand's primary Crown body for R&D funding and innovation support. Its work spanned AI infrastructure, biotech, climate, energy, hardware, manufacturing, materials, medtech, and robotics, and it sat at the center of the country's innovation support system before disestablishment.

Its routes included the R&D Tax Incentive, the New to R&D Grant, Project Grants, R&D Loans, R&D Career Grants, R&D Experience Grants, Startup and Founder Support, and the Ārohia Trailblazer Grant. The New to R&D Grant offered up to NZD 400,000 and covered 40% of eligible costs for businesses new to R&D; the R&D Tax Incentive was a 15% credit.

The organisation was disestablished on 1 December 2025 and is now in wrap-up through 2026, with major funding functions transferred to MBIE's Innovation Services and other functions moving to successor research organisations. For applicants, the practical route has shifted, but Callaghan remains the historical reference point for New Zealand's former national R&D funding platform.
