Funds New Zealand for-profit companies to bring R&D students and graduates into commercial R&D roles.
The Business R&D Student Grants scheme is administered by Callaghan Innovation (now transitioning to MBIE) to support New Zealand undergraduate and postgraduate students gaining technical skills in commercial R&D environments. The scheme includes the R&D Experience Grant (for students currently studying) and the R&D Career Grant (for recent Masters and PhD graduates). Both grants pay the student's salary at the host company; they are not project or equipment grants. The scheme aims to increase business investment in R&D by reducing the cost of bringing research talent into commercial settings.
