Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholar Program

Supports postdoctoral researchers in Academia Sinica institutes with salary and annual research grants.

Academia SinicaTaiwanGrant

Academia Sinica Postdoctoral Scholar Program is the academy's postdoctoral appointment route in Taiwan, designed for PhD holders who want to work inside its institute network. Applicants must have earned the doctorate within the past five years, identify a sponsoring Academia Sinica mentor before applying, and work in one of the academy's 31 institutes and centres. The program is open to researchers from any domestic or foreign university and is handled entirely online. Appointments start with an initial two-year term and can be extended up to six years after the PhD, with two application windows each year. Scholars receive salary under Academia Sinica remuneration rules plus a research grant of up to NT$500,000 per year, and international scholars can also receive airfare subsidies. The cycle is split between an August-to-September window for January starts and a January-to-March window for July starts. The program suits researchers who already have a strong fit with a host lab or institute and can bring a clearly scoped project. The mentor requirement matters: applicants who arrive with an identified sponsor and a plan aligned to Academia Sinica's research agenda are in the best position to move through the process quickly and make the most of the research support.
