Academia Sinica
Funds Taiwan's premier research mission by running institutes and coordinating large national scientific programmes.
Academia Sinica is Taiwan's national academy and a research-performing organization based in Taipei. Its funding portfolio mixes internal research support with a small set of externally open fellowships, which makes it a selective route rather than a broad public grant program.
The visible awards include Investigator Awards up to NT$1 million, the Postdoctoral Scholar Program up to NT$500,000, humanities and social science doctoral fellowships up to NT$1.2 million, TIGP, and the Scholar Award up to NT$300,000. The postdoctoral route runs two annual rounds, Aug 1-Sep 1 and Jan 15-Mar 1, while TIGP is a co-hosted doctoral program with Taiwanese universities.
The strongest fit is a researcher who can align with one of the institute's laboratories or programs in biotech, materials, or AI-related work. Most other programs are reserved for Academia Sinica faculty or PI-led projects, so outside applicants generally succeed by fitting a named fellowship track rather than approaching the academy as an open call funder.
