Academia Sinica Scholar Award (ASSA)

Offers awards for early-career researchers at Taiwanese universities across sciences, life sciences, and humanities.

Academia SinicaTaiwanPrize

Academia Sinica Scholar Award (ASSA) recognizes early-career researchers at Taiwanese universities through nomination by their home institution. It sits under Academia Sinica and is a prize route rather than an open call, which means the university has to put the candidate forward. The award covers mathematical and physical sciences, life sciences, and humanities and social sciences, with a separate interdisciplinary slot possible. Winners receive NT$300,000, a research grant, and a medal. Each of the three main categories can select up to three awardees per year, so the route is competitive even before the nomination step. The geography is narrow by design: the award is for researchers at Taiwanese universities, and researchers cannot apply directly. The award favors scholars who already have visible momentum in a local university setting and whose work fits one of the academy's main panels. In practice, the decisive factor is whether a university is willing to nominate the researcher and whether the work reads as a strong early-career contribution inside the category's lane.
