ARIA Opportunity Seeds
Supports early-stage proposals in United Kingdom Opportunity Spaces with seed funding for high-reward ideas.
ARIA Opportunity Seeds are the agency's early-stage seed funding route under the Advanced Research and Invention Agency, the UK crown body that supports ambitious research and invention. The mechanism backs bold proposals aligned to a specific Opportunity Space and gives ARIA a way to test ideas before a larger programme is built around them. Each award reaches up to 500,000 pounds, with a median actual award of about 300,000 pounds. The route is rolling, open in the UK, and available to for-profits, nonprofits, and individuals registered and operating in the UK. It sits at TRL 1 to 4, does not require a consortium, and does not require match funding. The current rolling call covers Mathematics for Safe AI, Scoping Our Planet, and Scalable Neural Interfaces, while other spaces can launch fixed-period seed calls of their own. This route suits early work that is unusual, exploratory, and not yet ready for a full programme proposal. Teams do best when they can show that the idea belongs in a named opportunity space, can be executed quickly, and will generate a clear signal for whether ARIA should deepen the work later.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
