Career Development Awards
Funds early-career United States investigators moving toward independent inflammatory bowel disease research.
Career Development Awards are the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's mentored route for early-career investigators building independence in IBD research. The programme is limited to U.S. institutions and supports MD or PhD researchers who are not yet established in the field and who can work with a senior mentor. The award can run one to three years at up to $102,500 a year. Budget lines include salary, fringe, and other research costs such as MPH tuition, statistical support, and travel, and the applicant must commit at least 65% of professional time to the project. MD candidates need at least five years beyond their terminal degree and two years of documented IBD research, while PhD candidates need at least two years of postdoctoral IBD research; the foundation generally expects applicants to be within ten years of the doctorate, with flexibility for career gaps. The route suits researchers who still need structured mentorship but already have enough momentum to move toward independent IBD work. The foundation also notes a joint award with NASPGHAN for pediatric IBD investigators, so a clear training plan and a well-matched mentor matter as much as the research idea itself.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
