Litwin IBD Pioneers

Funds translational and clinical exploratory teams addressing complex inflammatory bowel disease questions.

Litwin IBD Pioneers is the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's pilot funding route for innovative clinical and translational work in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It welcomes applicants from outside traditional IBD circles, and it is open worldwide to non-profit or charitable institutions such as universities, hospitals, and research organizations. Clinical trials can receive up to $130,000 including indirect costs, while lab-based studies can receive up to $110,000. Funding lasts up to two years, but it is awarded one year at a time, so a second year requires a competing renewal. The foundation says pre-application decisions arrive within four to six weeks. This is the right fit for an early idea that needs pilot data and a plausible route to near-term impact on treatment decisions. Applicants do best when the project is novel, focused, and able to show why a small first award can de-risk a larger clinical or translational step.
