The Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP) sits inside CDMRP under the Army Medical Research and Development Command and is administered on behalf of DHA. For FY26 it carries $165 million across 20 congressionally directed cancer topic areas, making it one of the larger annual cancer research competitions in the defense health portfolio. PRCRP uses grant funding and follows an annual cycle. Its main mechanisms for this year are the Clinical Trial Award, the Idea Award, and the Impact Award, which together span work from discovery through clinical translation. Applicants move through a two-step process: pre-proposals are mandatory, and full applications are by invitation through eBRAP and Grants.gov. The program allows for-profits, nonprofits, universities, and research organizations, while individuals are not eligible. The strongest fit is a team whose cancer project matches one of the annual topic areas and can be framed for the right mechanism from the start. Because the program is peer reviewed and invitation-based at the full application stage, the opening submission has to be precise about scientific relevance, translational value, and alignment with the specific topic area. Mechanism-level budgets are set in the FOA materials, so applicants need to read the annual notice closely before scoping work.
