Business Innovation Funding (BIF) is MTI's unified grant, loan, and equity program for Maine-based technology businesses. It consolidates the historical TechStart, Seed, Development Award, and Maine Technology Asset Fund (MTAF) programs into a single rolling application process beginning with a Startup Questionnaire. Awards range from $10,000 to $250,000 and require a minimum 1:1 match from non-Maine-state sources. Eligible businesses must operate in one of MTI's seven target technology sectors, demonstrate innovative products or methods, and show clear economic impact potential for Maine. The application follows an 8-step process managed directly by MTI.
