The Shared Research Infrastructure Program sits under Michigan State University and funds shared resources that benefit a broad range of researchers. It covers one-time, non-recurring purchases such as specialized equipment, large databases, and other infrastructure that can be used across multiple projects rather than by a single lab. Three tracks are available. Track 1 offers up to $100,000 with cost share encouraged, Track 2 runs from $100,000 to $4,000,000 with cost share required and OR&I covering up to 75 percent, and Track 3 provides planning grants of up to $20,000 with cost share encouraged. The program is limited to MSU faculty and staff, and 2026 deadlines ran from early February through mid-February, with a single PDF application and support letters. SRIP is strongest for proposals that can show broad institutional use, fit with MSU priorities, and a clear justification for why shared infrastructure matters more than a teaching asset or a single-PI purchase. Applicants are expected to show evidence of wider benefit, a workable business plan, and the administrative support needed to keep the resource useful across the university.
