NINR Areas of Emphasis R01 is the National Institute of Nursing Research's flagship R01 line, reissuing PAR-22-230 and aligned to the institute's 2022-2026 Strategic Plan and five priority areas. It is active, uses the standard NIH review system, allows clinical trials, and runs on standard NIH review cycles several times a year. Application budgets are not capped, but they must reflect actual project needs, and the program is U.S.-based under Assistance Listing 93.361. Eligible applicants include public and private universities, 501(c)(3) and other nonprofits, small businesses, for-profit companies, and state, local, tribal, and other government entities; federal agencies are not eligible. This route suits hypothesis-driven nursing research that can stand on one clear question and a realistic five-year plan. Because the applicant pool is broad and the budget is open-ended, the main requirement is a proposal that fits NINR's thematic priorities without drifting outside nursing science, especially when the question lands squarely in one of the five priority areas.
