NM Quantum Technologies Award

Funds early-stage quantum and quantum-enabling technology companies establishing or growing operations in New Mexico.

The New Mexico Quantum Technologies Award (NMQTA) is a competitive, state-funded non-dilutive grant administered by the Technology and Innovation Office (TIO) of the New Mexico Economic Development Department. It targets early-stage companies working in quantum and quantum-enabling technologies, with the goal of growing or relocating quantum tech companies to New Mexico to expand the state's innovation economy and create tech sector jobs. The program leverages New Mexico's unique quantum research assets, including Sandia National Laboratories and the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). The TIO awards up to $200,000 per company. There is no stated minimum. Awards are capped at $200,000 each. Funds support business growth, relocation to New Mexico, and job creation — covering activities such as establishing company presence, hiring, and R&D in collaboration with national labs. Eligibility has three firm requirements: (1) the company must be formed and must have received at least one prior form of outside funding; (2) the applicant must commit to establishing a New Mexico presence during the grant period — specifically, a NM Business Tax Identification Number, a physical NM address, an EIN, and employees physically working in New Mexico; (3) the company must agree to maintain that NM presence, including a physical space and at least one in-state employee, for two years after receiving the award. Out-of-state companies are eligible as long as they can meet these presence requirements. The program serves for-profit companies; no nonprofit or individual path is described. The application process is periodic — cycles open and close, with applications currently closed as of verification date. No multi-stage scoring rubric is published publicly. The 2025 cycle awarded $100,000 to one company (Mesa Quantum, a Colorado firm expanding to New Mexico via Sandia National Labs collaboration). Key caveats: companies without prior outside funding are ineligible. The two-year post-award NM presence commitment is a hard requirement; companies that cannot sustain in-state operations after receiving the award may face clawback or compliance issues. Quantum companies not yet incorporated or without prior funding will need to meet those milestones before applying.
